Instructions

Instructions 1 . Using the cleaning powder mixed with a little water and the scrubbing pad, clean the surface thoroughly to remove soap and oil residues. Pay special attention to the edges against the wall, around faucets, outlet and overflow. It is advisable to remove the drain outlet, clean and sand this particular area very well. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water. Refinish this area as well.

2. Using warm water and 120 grit waterproof abrasive paper, sand the surface thoroughly (with special attention to edges and areas around the faucets, outlet and overflow to remove the shine. Sand until waterproof abrasive paper has worn through completely. Remove any signs of rust by sanding well with the 120 grit waterproof paper, and if necessary, treat with a rust neutralizer. Chips, scratches or any other damage can be repaired using an epoxy filler or a fine grade polyester filler which has to be completely cured before applying the coating. Rinse with plenty of warm water, then dry thoroughly using tissue paper to soak up excess water around the outlet, overflow, faucets and edges against the wall.

3. When the surface and surrounding areas are completely dry, use masking tape to mask the edges against walls (2mm above bathtub surface) around outlets/overflows and faucets. Then cover the faucets/overhead shower with plastic bags to prevent water leakage.

Mixing

Note: Work in a well-ventilated room

4. Pour all the contents of the Hardener can into the coating can. Mix contents well with spatula scraping bottom of can. Replace lid tightly on the coating can and turn upside down and shake vigorously for 5 minutes. Turn can over, remove lid and leave to stand for 5 minutes before application.

Application

5. Put on the gloves. Pour approximately 1/3 of the mixed coating from the coating can into the paint tray. Replace lid on can and store below 20 degrees C/68 Degrees F. Make sure that the surface is dust-free and completely dry before applying the coating. Using the paintbrush, brush in areas which cannot be reached with the roller (i.e.outlet etc.). Put the paintbrush into a plastic bag to keep it from drying out, ready for the second coat.

6. Fit the roller head to the roller handle and apply the first coat with firm, even strokes. Roll as close to the edges as possible, overlapping the brushed portions to obtain a smooth finish. After the first coat has been applied, remove the roller head and gloves and discard. Allow the entire surface to dry for a minimum of 1 hour and maximum of 2 hours at 20 degrees C/68 degrees F.

7. Fit second roller head to handle and second pair of gloves. Using the brush and roller, apply the second coat liberally, avoiding runs. Use up the remaining mixed coating. Do not apply excessive pressure and do not roll repeatedly over places where coating is starting to dry.

8. It is very important to look very carefully at the paint on your final coat, as this way you can prevent any runs before they occur, giving you an outstanding finish of which you can be proud.

9. When complete, remove the masking tape very carefully by pulling it up and away from the surface. Leave the plastic bags on the faucets until the surface has cured completely (48 hours minimum).

10. Once the Tubby coating has cured for 48 hours, it is advisable to fit a new drain/outlet with fresh plumbers putty. Carefully fit the new drain. Do not over-tighten as this will cut the paint and damage your refinished tub.

11. It is advisable to use a good 100% silicone caulking to re-caulk your tub as this lasts much longer and is more mildew resistant.

12. Use lacquer thinners or epoxy thinners for cleaning.

Guidelines

  • Do not apply the coating below 16 degrees C - 61 degrees F.
  • Surface preparation is very important - proceed carefully.
  • It is advisable to wear a suitable organic vapor mask and eye protection.
  • The coating and the hardener must be mixed thoroughly.
  • The contents must be used within 6 hours before solidification occurs.
  • The bathtub may be used 48 hours after application provided the room temperature is maintained above 20 degrees C/68 degrees F.
  • Anti-slip rubber mats can only be used 10 days after application when full hardening has occurred. The mat must be lifted and removed from the surface immediately after each use.
  • If the surface has been refinished previously, a suitable paint stripper must be used to remove the old coating completely. Kleen Strip can be used for metal surfaces only, not plastic surfaces.
  • This coating is not suitable for toilet interiors.
  • When refinishing domestic equipment (washing machines, etc.) it is not necessary to strip the original paint off the equipment.
  • Cellulose thinners (lacquer thinners) can be used for cleaning purposes.
  • Any dust or imperfections can be removed from the surface after 10 days, by using water and 1500 grit waterproof abrasive paper, very lightly on affected areas, followed by using polishing cream.
  • The roller head must be used parallel to the contours of the bathtub.
  • Make sure the surface, paintbrush, paint tray and roller head are dust-free prior to use.
  • Before surface preparation, remove any synthetic sealant (excluding tile grouting) from the gap between the bathtub and tiles.
